Zohan: Zionist Propaganda or feel-good movie of the summer?
Adam Sandler's latest flick, opening June 6th, is called You Don't Mess With the Zohan. The official site provides the following synopsis:
In You Don't Mess With the Zohan, a comedy from screenwriters Adam Sandler, Robert Smigel (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), and Judd Apatow (Knocked Up), Sandler stars as Zohan, an Israeli commando who fakes his own death in order to pursue his dream: becoming a hairstylist in New York. What they don't tell you: The Zohan's love interest is, gasp, a Palestinian!!!
Will Sandler forgo his usual insipid nonsense in favour of a nuanced comedic portrait of a Romeo and Juliet-style romance against the backdrop of modern cultural and religious conflict? A thoughtful and sensitive commentary that will inspire a desire for peace among two troubled peoples, and succeed in bridging the most intractable geo-political divide of the past sixty years?
Nah, probably not, but it might be good for a couple of laughs (maybe...)
