The question is bound to come up sooner or later: What the heck is a SWOMPDONKEY ?

Well, for starters, it is a corruption of two different words

SWAMP

and

DONKEY

I checked another online dictionary to find the definition of "Swamp donkey", and was pretty surprised that out of 28 different definitions, only one got it right...

Anyone who grew up in Northern Ontario can tell you that "swamp donkey" is slang for Alces Canadensis, a.k.a. the Canadian Moose!

The term is generally used in a mildly pejorative way. For example "Holy jeez, you shoulda been there! I spilled my beer when I almost hit a friggin' swamp donkey with my four-by-four!"

The majestic moose, proud denizen of the Canadian hinterland! A fitting symbol for my blog.
